Hello everyone...It has been so long since I have written on here. So much has happened in our lives, but my goal is to continue to write on here as often as possible. I hopefully want to print it out someday for my kids to have as a memory book of the things we did and feelings I had at the time. I was trying to catch up and write posts on things that happened last year but that was taking way too long so I just thought I would start fresh, but I had to do a special post on the newest addition to our family.
Now many of you know that I was pregnant last year, We found out in May/June, and were very excited to know we would be welcoming another boy in January of 2014 (Well I think Scott really wanted a girl so we could be done having kids, but we were both really excited to give Hunter a brother and best friend for life). There was nothing different from this pregnancy from my pregnancy with Hunter and everything was rolling along smoothly. 2 days before Christmas I went in for my OB check up and she decided to check me to see if i was dilated any. I was almost 36 weeks at this point. When they checked me the first time with Hunter, my water broke 3 days later, so I was nervous that this might happen again, because we had nothing ready. I didn't have a shower since I was having another boy, but we hadn't even gotten the car seat out or anything. The doctor said I was only 1 cm dilated and I had at least 1 week before I would go into labor, but she had a feeling I as going to go full term. 2 days later on Christmas Day night, my water broke (doctor should have listened to me). I had just gotten my pajamas on after a very long day, and was going to sit in the chair with Hunter to get him to sleep when again my water broke. I tried to convince myself that it wasn't my water, and Scott said "you just flooded our living room floor, I think your water broke" haha :) So my sister came to stay with Hunter and my Mom came with us to the hospital. We checked in and were taken back to labor and delivery. Several contractions, 1 failed epidural, and 5 1/2 hours later our baby boy emerged. We had just decided on the name Grant at the hospital, and Frederick is my dad's middle name. He came so fast that he had substantial facial bruising but this did go away in the first 24 hours. The first thing Scott and I thought though was Hunter isn't alone anymore. He will no longer have our undivided attention, and in some ways we were really sad about that, but I know he will have a best friend and confident for life. I am so happy they will always have each other.
We were able to go home a couple days later, but unfortunately Grant had a minor set back in the beginning of his life. Due to the facial bruising and other factors Grant got a severe case of jaundice and had to be admitted to the NICU on New Years Eve. Luckily it was only jaundice and was very easily treated but you never want to see your baby in the hospital. To see him be hooked up to monitors and an IV and have to wear those glasses for 2 days straight was heartbreaking, but we are forever grateful for the wonderful nurses and doctors at CHOC who constantly put our fears to rest. After 2 days in the NICU, Grant came home once again.
It has now been almost 5 months, and we cannot imagine our family without Grant. He has brought so much joy to us and is such a sweet little spirit. I have never met a child who smiles so easily when you coo or talk to him. He is already in love with his brother and Hunter with him. I am just so grateful to know that the Lord has given me this divine opportunity to be there mother and to be with them forever. Now being a mommy of 2 is not easy, but I wouldn't have it any other way. Scott and I feel beyond blessed with how our life has turned out. I think we may have one more (I really want that girl) but for now we feel so lucky to have two handsome baby boys in our lives :) Below are some pics from Grants first days and his extra stay in the hospital.
Ill be writing again soon!
